Bio: Jacob is a music educator, pianist and film composer residing in Scarsdale, NY. Judith Larsen, editor of Harvard Review calls his work “quite moving and played with an extremely rare sensitivity.” Sri Lankan sitar virtuoso, Pradeep Ratnayake declares, “Jacob’s music goes right to the heart.”
As a very active educator, Jacob teaches a multitude of group classes and individual lessons on a weekly basis in piano, music theory, composition and production to students of all levels and backgrounds throughout the Westchester and southern Connecticut region at various music schools as well as privately.
Jacob was born in New York City and attended Columbia University where he double-majored in music and religion (Honors Society, magna cum laude). He earned his Masters in film composition at NYU Steinhardt School (summa cum laude).
He has performed his jazz and classical compositions alongside acclaimed artists at Richardson Auditorium, Princeton, NJ, The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. and Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall in New York City. Jacob has scored the music for numerous films including, most notably, five feature-length documentaries for the Mysterious China Series produced by Chris Nebe and JJ Osbun. Comfortable writing and producing music in any genre, his work in film scoring, orchestral composition, world music and pop/EDM reflect his ability to cross musical borders and create a global aesthetic. In fact, he incorporates music technology, recording and composition into his students’ lessons if there is an interest.
He enjoys walks in the countryside with his wife and loves cats.
