Cheng received early musical training in his native Taiwan and pursued further studies in Germany before immigrating to the United States with his family. He then went on to study music at the University of Maryland at College Park and earned his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance under the tutelage of Bradford Gowen. Among his other teachers have included distinguished artists such as Pishien Chen, Rita Sloan, Boris Slutsky and Gregory Sioles.
Cheng has been a recipient of several honors and awards for his pianistic achievements and has performed extensively as a soloist, chamber musician and vocal accompanist. While his recital programs most frequently feature works by J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Ravel. Cheng has successfully taught students of all ages and backgrounds for the last ten years and currently maintains an active teaching studio in Rockville, Maryland.
